I didn't know the background of the production at the time, so as I watched it I was wondering if Fulci had just went straight up bonkers by this point in time. I was so disappointed. After I read about the backstory, I re-watched it and thoroughly enjoyed it's insanity. Like you said, it's all about the expectations. When I first saw this I saw Fulci, and thought, “Great.” I didn’t know the background of the production at the time, so as I watched it I was wondering if Fulci had just went straight up bonkers by this point in time. I was so disappointed.

After I read about the backstory, I re-watched it and thoroughly enjoyed it’s insanity. Like you said, it’s all about the expectations.
